It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Professor Dabing Zhang.
Dabing was an extraordinary scholar who left an indelible mark on the global plant science community. He held joint Professorial appointments at the University of Adelaide and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, which helped to strengthen worldwide scientific networks for researchers and students alike. Dabing’s work changed the blueprint for fundamental cereal research, and his application of gene editing in cereals delivered ground-breaking innovation that will continue for many years to come.
As one of the most highly cited authors in the plant science community, regularly being in the top 0.1% of scientists cited globally, his prolific publications in top-ranking journals shaped the field. Furthermore, Professor Dabing’s legacy as a mentor and collaborator will be cherished, inspiring generations to push the boundaries of plant science.
Dabing was a pillar in the Waite Research Institute community and in time we would like to celebrate his legacy. His memorial service in Shanghai was held on Monday June 26. The Waite Research Institute extends sincere sympathies to Dabing’s family and SJTU colleagues.
