The Australian Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment, under its National Landcare Programme, invites applications for its smart farms small grants. This supports projects to increase farming, forestry and fishing communities’ awareness, knowledge, skills and capacity to adopt best practice sustainable agriculture in Australia. Projects must have the following outcomes:

  • increased adoption of best practice sustainable agriculture;
  • increased capacity of land managers to adopt best practice sustainable agriculture.

Applicants may be individuals or organisations. They must be capable of entering into a legally binding and enforceable agreement with the Commonwealth. They must have an Australian business number, or be willing to obtain one, be registered for the purposes of goods and services tax, or be willing to register as well as have an account with an Australian financial institution.

Individuals must be permanent residents of Australia and international entities must be registered with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission to carry on business in Australia. Consortia may apply. Projects may be delivered locally, regionally or multi-regionally.

The total budget is worth $6.5 million. Grants are worth between $5,000 and $100,000 over two years.
