The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) celebrates the exciting research conducted by PhD students. It is a skills development competition that challenges Higher Degree by Research students to explain their research project to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes and with only a single static slide permitted.
The School of Ag, Food and Wine heat was held on Wednesday July 19 and showcased some of the excellent students here at Waite. The standard was high across all of the twelve participating students – well done to all involved!
Pictured left to right are the winners from the School heat:
- Jo Parish – Waite heat 3rd place: The dark side of honey bees.
- Chandnee Ramkissoon – Waite heat 2nd place: Improving food quality through developing better micronutrient fertilisers.
- Deborah Devis – Waite heat winner: Pollen – the cause of hay fever. Mutant pollen – the solution to hay fever?
Deborah and Chandnee will now compete in the Faculty of Science 3MT final on Thursday evening 10th August. Come along and support our students! All who are interested in attending are encouraged to register as drinks and nibbles will be provided making this a perfect networking occasion.

The winner and runner up of the Faculty final will then compete in the University Final, which is held as part of the Research Tuesdays Seminar Series, to be held on Tuesday 12 September 2017.
