Soil Pit Opening at Waite Campus
A new ‘permanent’ soil pit was formally opened at Waite Campus on 5 November 2025. This exciting new development enables soil science to be taught and showcased on campus much more easily. The soil pit has already proved a success with undergraduate students and school groups undertaking various activities there to learn about soils. Assoc. Prof. Beth Loveys, Associate Head of School (Learning and Teaching), formally opened the pit by cutting a clay soil ribbon, while Prof. Rob Fitzpatrick described the interesting soil profile at the site. The project received funding support from the Waite General Bequest Equipment Fund and the School of Agriculture, Food & Wine with many staff involved in seeing this come to fruition.
