Know your audience, know your story.
Media and communication training for researchers
Venue: Lot Fourteen, Adelaide, Thursday 16 October
A full-day practical workshop (9am to 5pm) with a small group designed to help you effectively communicate about your work to the media.
This workshop is designed for researchers or people working in science, technology and other evidence-based complex fields looking to build confidence, sharpen their communication skills or get match fit ahead of upcoming media announcements. You will:
- Meet local journalists and find out how the media works.
- Practice being interviewed ‘on tape’ and in front of camera by working journalists.
- Learn how media coverage can help you amplify the impact of your research.
- Tackle tricky questions, and more.
Science in Public presenters are experienced science communicators who will guide you in how to ensure your story stays true to the science and delivers impact. The skills you learn will be useful across other audiences that you need to reach including government and industry.

About Science in Public
We are a specialist science communication and public relations agency. We help researchers simplify and amplify their work and get their story to the audience that matters most – whether that is the public, government, industry, farmers, patients, or the media.
Over the years we’ve increased the sightings of sawfish for Sharks and Rays Australia; helped Monash launch the world’s first printed jet engine; revealed the loss of half the coral on the Great Barrier Reef for AIMS; helped CERN announce the Higgs boson; revealed the link between CSIRO’s Wi-Fi patent and Aussie astronomy; and managed publicity for National Science Week since 2015.
