SAGC Scientific Advisory Committee Expression of Interest for Chair
The South Australian Genomics Centre (SAGC) is seeking expressions of interest (EOIs) from qualified researchers and professionals in the fields of genomics and bioinformatics to serve as the SAGC’s Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) Chair. Members of the SAGC SAC provide advice to SAGC management and the SAGC Steering Committee on genomic and bioinformatic technology advancements, new infrastructure and equipment investments, new areas of opportunity for the SAGC, and will facilitate communication between the SAGC and stakeholders. Membership of the SAC and the Chair position are honorary roles.
The SAC Chair is responsible for managing the SAC, appointing new members of the SAC, liaising with and reporting to the SAGC Steering Committee on SAC activities.
The South Australian Genomics Centre (SAGC)
The SAGC is a state-wide genomics facility that supports researchers, clinicians and industry partners by providing a nationally and internationally recognised fee-for-service genomics facility supported by an advanced bioinformatics platform.
The SAGC was established in July 2020 as a state-wide genomics facility to support genomics research in South Australia, as well as nationally and internationally. The SAGC is South Australia’s only NCRIS supported genomics facility, with funding support from BioPlatforms (BPA) Australia, the SA State Government, the James and Diana Ramsay foundation (JDRF) and our partner institutes – The South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI), The University of South Australia, Flinders University and The University of Adelaide. Our affiliate partners include the Australian Genome Research Facility (AGRF) and the Australian Wine Research Institute (AWRI).
The SAGC is a NATA-accredited facility and provides a broad range of genomic services including single cell and spatial transcriptomics, bulk RNA sequencing, small RNA sequencing, exome and genome sequencing, epigenomics, metagenomics and a range of other custom methods. These services are supported by a dedicated Bioinformatics Platform that supports users of the facility by developing advanced and customised approaches for data analysis, integration and visualisation. The SAGC is pleased to support researchers and clinicians from all our partners institutes as well as industry partners and other external clients. All areas of genomics – animal, plant, environmental, microbial and human – are supported. The SAGC also has an active education, seminar and workshop program.
To support the centre, a Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) was established in 2021 to advise the Steering Committee and Scientific Director. Since its establishment, the SAC has been chaired by Professor Robert Edwards (Flinders) and includes representatives from each of the member institutions. After four years of dedicated service and significant contributions that have supported the rapid growth of the SAGC, Professor Edwards will step down from the Chair role at the end of 2025. In preparation for this transition, we are now seeking a new Chair for the SAC.
Expressions of interest are invited from suitably qualified researchers and professionals in all areas of genomics (biomedical, Indigenous, agricultural, and environmental) and bioinformatics, as well as related fields.
