Adelaide University is offering a full-time PhD scholarship to support research into aluminium geochemistry in acid sulfate environments.
Activities such as coal and metal ore mining, wetland drainage during droughts, and coastal floodplain development often trigger geochemical reactions that generate highly acidic waters enriched in dissolved aluminium. Elevated aluminium concentrations pose a serious threat to aquatic ecosystems and degrade surface and groundwater quality. Yet, the geochemical controls governing dissolved aluminium at low pH remain poorly understood.

The University of Adelaide is offering a full-time PhD scholarship to support research into soil water repellency (SWR) in South Australian cropping systems.
SWR is a condition where soils temporarily resist wetting, reducing water availability for plants. It affects over 5 million hectares across southern and western Australia, costing grain growers an estimated $100 million annually through poor crop establishment, reduced water and nutrient uptake, and ultimately lower yields. SWR is influenced by factors such as organic matter content, soil texture, plant species, crop rotations, and stubble management.
