Get your treats here!

Long-time Waite campus food science researcher John “I love seeing a product on a shelf” Carragher has been working with Port Lincoln Pet Treats to develop a new “pet gummies” product with the help of quite a few Plant Research Centre pet owners that have ‘volunteered’ their four-legged friends to act as taste testers as the various flavours have been trialled.

The gummies are made with agar, real food powders (not artificial flavours), wild fish oil as a source of anti-inflammatory EPA and DHA omega-3s (harking back to John’s time with Bob Gibson and FOODplus!) and are shelf-stable without using preservatives. Each paw-shaped treat is 3.5g which works well for most dogs but cats tend to prefer it cut into smaller pieces. The full range of 8 different meat, seafood and vegetable flavoured treats are now commercially available online and in select pet food suppliers, but John also has some at factory prices of $19 per 100g packet (compared to $23 in the shops).

If you would like to buy some for your favourite four-legged friend or get a Christmas gift for someone who has a pampered pet, then contact John (logifishconsulting@gmail.com and 0418 837640).

Flavours are: Port Lincoln sardines, Port Lincoln prawns, sweet potato, kangaroo, chicken, beef, beef liver and beef bone broth.
