The GRDC Grains Research Update was held at the Adelaide Convention Centre on 11-12 February, with Waite researchers featuring heavily in the program.
Both SARDI and University of Adelaide speakers highlighted recent progress in their GRDC-funded work on pest/insect, disease and weed management, to the large audience of primarily grain growers and agronomists.
Several hundred delegates from all over South Australia were in attendance (along with many from further afield, particularly WA) to hear from experts on climate adaptation, herbicide resistance, crop rotation strategies, deep soil ripping, the best performing varieties of wheat and barley in terms of both disease resistance and yield, and a range of other topics.
The 2020 winner of the GRDC Emerging Leader Award (Southern Region) was also announced at the conference, and it went to another Waite graduate – Sarah Noack, now Research & Extension Manager at the Hart Field Site in Clare.
