Space research could improve food security in outback while preparing humans for Mars

 

Chief Investigator at the ARC Centre of Excellence in Plants for Space Professor Jenny Mortimer visited the community of Andamooka, South Australia, where the challenges of food security closely parallel those faced by astronauts on long-duration space missions. The research happening in plant-based innovation at the interface of controlled-environment agriculture, systems biology, and sustainability science, have implications for both space exploration and rural resilience.
