When everyone connects, agriculture moves forward

For sixth-generation sheep and cropping producer Kate McLachlan, the real value of evokeAG. is its ability to connect people who may not otherwise work together. Bringing producers, agribusinesses, researchers, universities and innovators into the same conversation creates space to share ideas, understand different perspectives and find practical ways forward.

“Some of our biggest opportunities come when we connect people from across the sector who see the same challenge from different perspectives,” Kate said.

“Whether it’s a sheep farm and an avocado farm, or farmers, agribusinesses, researchers and universities, some of those biggest opportunities for transformation come when everyone is connected.”

Innovation is not new to farming

Kate is part of a family-run sheep and cropping operation that has been breeding sheep for more than 100 years. Her father has led the farm for 50 years, while Kate and her husband have been involved in the business for just over a decade.

Alongside farm involvement, Kate has worked extensively in agribusiness in a professional capacity for 20 years, “this has exposed me to a broad cross-section of Australian agriculture and I have seen how producers are constantly adapting and making commercial decisions – much like other, often larger, commercial enterprises,” said Kate.

Over six generations, the business has continually evolved. For Kate, innovation is not new to farming. It has always been part of how producers respond to changing markets, new information and the need to operate more effectively.

“Agriculture is always evolving,” she said. “People who work in this industry are constantly adapting and making decisions about how to do things better. The opportunity now is to make sure that every part of the sector is involved in those conversations as new ideas and technologies are being developed.”
