Drought Breaker Luncheon 2025

The inaugural Drought Breaker lunch, held on July 18, 2025, at the Adelaide Showground, was a sold-out event with 600 attendees. Professor Jenny Mortimer and Dr Vicki Mavrakis attended as representatives of the WRI.

The lunch was hosted by the Royal Agricultural and Horticultural Society of South Australia, in partnership with Rural Aid and Rural Business Support. The event successfully raised $171,600 to support farmers and rural communities affected by drought. All funds raised will be split between the two charities to support farming families across South Australia, with a focus on mental health, emergency relief, and long-term wellbeing programs.

The event featured a keynote speaker, Jessica Trengove, and a live interview panel with guests sharing their experiences navigating the challenges of drought. The lunch was praised for its success in raising awareness and vital funds for rural communities experiencing the ongoing impacts of drought.
