Congratulations to Associate Professor Kerry Wilkinson from the School of Agriculture, Food and Wine here at Waite who has been named Best Wine Educator in the 2018 Wine Communicator Awards.

An initiative of Wine Communicators of Australia, the annual Wine Communicator Awards recognise outstanding contribution to, and excellence in, wine communication in all its forms.

The Best Wine Educator prize is awarded In recognition of an individual, group or institution with a proven ability to communicate and impart wine knowledge in an engaging and formal education-based manner, both in writing and face-to-face formal workshops or classes. This award is open to university or TAFE lecturers, sommeliers, wine educators or conference presenters.

When evaluating shortlisted finalists, judges took into consideration technical skill, relevance of the educational content to the audience and the industry, creativity and originality, professional achievements and actions of the educator and depth and display of knowledge on the topic.

Kerry has been a wine educator and researcher at the University of Adelaide since 2007. Her research interests concern the flavour chemistry of grapes and wine and the chemical and sensory analysis of foods and beverages, and their appeal to consumers.
