Applications are now open for the Spirit of Excellence in Agriculture Awards 2023.

The Agricultural Bureau’s annual Spirit of Excellence in Agriculture Awards provides unique opportunities and valuable financial support to award winners who are chosen for their abilities, achievements, vision and motivation for success. Applications are open for several awards, listed below. 

Sustainable Agriculture Scholarship

Valued at $10,000

This award, sponsored by the Department for Environment and Water (DEW), provides farmers (aged 18-45) in South Australia with the opportunity to improve personal and professional skills that will benefit the industry, the individual in their own business or employment and the sustainability of natural resources that underpin primary production. 

The scholarship may be used for study tours, courses or further study or assist to directly fund their commencement of a specific project.

Rural Youth Bursary

Valued at $5,000

This award, sponsored by the Department of Primary Industries and Regions (PIRSA), provides young people (aged 18-30) working in rural communities within South Australia the opportunity to pursue further study, undertake a study tour or to develop a special project, which will ultimately benefit their rural community.

Lois Harris Scholarship

Valued at $2,000

This scholarship is awarded to a first year student studying the Bachelor of Agricultural Sciences at the University of Adelaide. The scholarship is named in memory of Lois Harris, a member of the Advisory Board of Agriculture from 1995 to 1998, who died in 1998. One scholarship is awarded each year, usually to a student entering the course with an excellent Tertiary Entrance Rank (TER).
