Research seminar: The International Weed Genomics Consortium: A resource for weed genomics

Dec 19, 2022, 11:30 am - 12:30 pm

Sarah Morran from Colorado State University will be visiting the University of Adelaide on December 19th and presenting a seminar titled ‘The International Weed Genomics Consortium: A resource for weed genomics’.

The International Weed Genomics Consortium (IWGC) has been established as a coordinated international effort in weed genomics and represents the community of scientists from academia and industry with interests in the genomics of weedy plant species. The vision of the IWGC is to 1) obtain high quality assembled reference genomes for the most important weed species worldwide; 2) to provide user-friendly genome analytical tools and user training through web-based databases and resources; and 3) to facilitate discussion and collaborations within this emerging field. The goal of the IWGC is to sequence the genomes of weed species over 3 years, make the assemblies publicly available, and to train the weed science community in the use of genomics tools and databases. Participation from interested scientists is welcome. The consortium currently hosts over 15 reference genomes with more to come.

Visit  www.weedgenomics.org for more information and opportunity to create an account for our database.
