Title: Accelerated genomic-assisted breeding for safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.)

A diverse collection of safflower, conserved by the Australian grains genebank, was phenotyped over two consecutive years across four filed trails and genotyped via a genotyping by sequencing approach. Traits such as days to flowering, days to maturity, plant height, 500-seed weight, seed oil content, seed protein content, and grain yield were recorded. We investigated genomic prediction for grain yield and its related traits using different GBLUP models and applied different GWAS method to reveal genetic architecture of all traits. Additionally, we compared the response to selection for grain yield under different selection strategies, including phenotypic selection and genomic selection. We also investigated the long term genetic gain and inbreeding rate for grain yield and seed oil content under different genomic selection schemes.
