Every month, the professional development meetings of statisticians and data scientists at Waite, known as StatsPD@Waite, bring together specialists in various aspects of data sciences in agriculture from Waite, Roseworthy and Adelaide.
Please join us for the next StatsPD@Waite seminar where Dr. Denis Bauer, the Head of cloud computing bioinformatics, CSIRO will present on “How ML has accelerated genomic discovery”.
Also please note that the StatsPD@Waite meetings are recorded. If you have a question to the speaker but had rather not be recorded, please send your question via chat during the meeting and it will be asked on your behalf.
Please email Beata Sznajder with questions or for details of the Zoom meeting.
Title: How ML has accelerated genomic discovery
Presenter: Dr. Denis Bauer, Head cloud computing bioinformatics, CSIRO
Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence has had a transformative effect on many sectors and research has been no exception. The transformational bioinformatics group at CSIRO developed a genomic analysis platform incorporating Random Forrest machine learning to offer scalable phenotype-genotype association discovery as user-friendly webservices.
Having developed novel statistical approaches to wrap around the ML output the group was able to analyse the world’s largest genomics resources to discover novel Alzheimer’s and cardiovascular disease genes. Aiming at democratizing equitable genomic data access the group has also developed population-scale data queries accessing quintillion data-points in real time, to for example track emerging strains of COVID-19 across distributed data sources. We are interested in delivering value to the agricultural space and are actively looking for collaborators.
