The Waite Arboretum was established in 1928, and occupies 27 hectares of land bequeathed to the University of Adelaide by pastoralist, businessman and philanthropist Peter Waite. It comprises over 2,400 tree specimens from around the world growing on an average rainfall of 618mm without supplementary watering after establishment. Free guided tours of the Waite Arboretum are conducted by experienced Friends of the Waite Arboretum (FWA) Guides on the first Sunday of each month, except January. The guides are instructed in the history and features of the Arboretum.
