The School of Agriculture, Food and Wine at the University of Adelaide are seeking expressions of interest to participate in a gin sensory study (odour/flavour testing).

You are invited to join a gin sensory study (odour/flavour testing). This study is conducted under Human Research Ethics Committee Approval Number: H-2022-057.

We are looking at a number of compounds, and we will be recruiting participants on a rolling basis over the coming weeks. It is not a requirement to participate in all or a minimum number of session to be involved. So don’t hesitate to put your name down, even if it’s just for one session.

You must be 18 years of age and over to participate, and previous beer, wine or spirit consumption or tasting experience is required to participate in this study. Individuals are not required to volunteer for each test scenario but may be contacted to participate in further sensory studies as part of this project, if necessary.

This study involves aroma threshold testing where participants will be presented with model spirit solutions (20% ABV) containing one important gin aroma compound, at varying concentrations.

Participation in this project is completely voluntary. If you agree to participate, you can withdraw from the study at any time prior to the publication of results, and non-participation or withdrawal will not affect your relationship with the University.

  • For University of Adelaide students: Participation, non-participation, or withdrawal will not affect your ongoing studies or relationship with the University of Adelaide.
  • For University of Adelaide staff: Participation, non-participation, or withdrawal will not affect your employment at the University of Adelaide.
  • For participants not affiliated with the University of Adelaide: Participation, non-participation, or withdrawal will not affect your relationship(s) with the research team.

Location: Sensory laboratory, Level 4, Wine Innovation Central Building, Waite Campus, The University of Adelaide (corner of Hartley Grove and Paratoo Rd, Urrbrae, SA 5064)

Compensation: Participants will receive a gift card ($10 per session) commensurate with time committed.
