DESCRIPTION:We’re happy to share that the Synthetic Biology Australasia Adelaide Node is back! \nFor those who are not familiar with the SBA community\, SBA is a society for synthetic biologists across Australia and New Zealand. Our members include students\, university researchers\, industry professionals\, and anyone with an interest in synthetic biology. We aim to support a growing and engaged community through local events\, an international conference\, as well as both in-person and online networking opportunities. \nWe’re planning to run at least one event per month going forward\, covering a range of topics and formats. To kick things off\, we’re hosting our first in-person seminar: \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Topic: Synthetic Biology in Plants \nDate: Wednesday\, 8 April 2026 \nTime: 16:00 – 17:00 \nPlace: Adelaide University\, Waite Campus\, Plant Research Centre\, Auditorium \nPresenting Professor Wayner Montero‑Carmona\, titled “Plant Biotechnology and Synthetic Biology on Tropical Crops\,” hosted by Plant SynBio Australia and Synthetic Biology Australasia. \nProfessor Montero-Carmona is a researcher at the Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica with extensive expertise in plant biotechnology and tropical crop improvement. His work spans plant tissue culture\, plant physiology\, and the application of emerging synthetic biology approaches to enhance crop resilience and productivity. He also brings specialist knowledge in plant-soil interactions\, particularly in the study and management of plant‑parasitic nematodes. \nWe warmly welcome researchers\, students\, and industry colleagues with an interest in plant science\, biotechnology\, and synthetic biology to attend this seminar and engage in discussion.
