SARDI Seminar: Mary Burrows
Mar 26, 10:30 am
Seminar rescheduled to Tuesday 26th March at 10.30am
Plant Pathology and Extension in Montana, USA: the perpetual loop between diagnostics, education and epidemics
Professor Mary Burrows, Montana State University
Identification of the causal agent of plant disorders is a cornerstone of Integrated Pest Management. In Montana, USA, plant diseases are diagnosed in the field and at the diagnostic laboratory. Sample submissions from clients are used for extension and research efforts. The connection between the state’s Land Grant University and the citizens of the state are reinforced by information exchange using a number of different methods. Here, an introduction to the University and Extension and a case study of a Wheat streak mosaic virus epidemic in 2016 will be used to showcase this information exchange. There are many parallels between the US and Australia, and some differences, which will be discussed.
Mary is a Professor in plant pathology at Montana State University and is currently a Fulbright Scholar visiting Jenny Davidson’s group in SARDI.
We look forward to seeing you all there.
