Can you (or someone you know) help us improve water productivity for rice by 75% in the next five years?

Droughts, fires and a pandemic. Rice supply in Australia is now front page news. Australians are demanding Australian rice and producers want to grow it. But for the rice industry to remain a competitive user of farm business resources and a sustainable alternative within farming systems, transformational change is required. Identifying and investing in novel and established technologies will be critical in helping to achieve this step change.

In its mission to drive transformational change for the rice industry, AgriFutures Australia has launched the Rice Program Open Innovation Challenge agrifutures.brightidea.comThe challenge aims to find potential technologies or solutions to improve water productivity for rice by 75% in the next five years.

Selected technologies or solutions will have the potential for funding through the rice research, development and extension (RD&E) program with the ultimate objective being industry wide adoption. Commercialisation and IP arrangements will be determined as part of ongoing project discussions.

The challenge is now open and will close on Tuesday, 13 October 2020.  For more information or to submit your technologies or solutions visit agrifutures.brightidea.com.
